How to Start Fat Loss Journey–the First Thing You Need to Know

First of all, we want to clearly define what is weight loss. It sounds silly but it is not because weight reflects much more than body fat (i.e. it can be bone, muscle or organ weight). Some diets like Low Carb Diet and Low Calorie Diet make you lose pounds but actually make you lose muscles not body fat (will be discussed in my later articles). Weight loss must be defined as fat loss. Keep this in mind, it will guide you at the right direction in your weight loss journey.

In the beginning of your fat loss journey, you must have a clear picture of your destination. That is the key to your success in your weight loss.

Begin with the end in mind

First, to begin with the end in mind is to start with a clear understanding of your destination. By knowing where you’re going, you can better understand where you are now, and ensure that each step you take towards the right direction.

In your life journey, have you been asked what is your life purpose or mission, and what kind of person you want to be, also what you want to contribute to the world or what you want to achieve in your life?

In your fat loss journey, ask yourself what is your purpose to loseĀ  body fat or what you want to achieve in your life by losing weight.

Change your habits

Second, losing weight is a life change by changing your habits, not just a diet change from one to another. But what are habits? Habits are defined as the intersection of knowledge, skills and desire by Stephen Covey, the author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. “Knowledge is the what to do and the why. Skill is the how to do. And desire is the motivation, the want to do.”

In order to create an new habit, or make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three. So ask yourself: “Do I have the knowledge of losing weight?” “Do I know how to lose body fat or lose pounds?” ” Do I have the desire for the change”?

Get motivated by higher purposes

Finally, unless you have the desire to create an new habit it won’t be a habit in your life. It’s a change that has to be motivated by a higher purpose.

Many people think goal setting is the first thing to lose body fat but not what I suggest, because we need to look for the higher purpose first. With many people’s failure in losing weight, it has showed that a goal without motivation or purpose can hardly be achieved no matter how good the goal you set.

In conclusion, the first thing you need to do to start your fat loss journey is finding your purpose to lose body fat clearly understanding what you want to achieve in your life by losing weight. Get highly motivated !
